147 lower blandford road/broadstone

We love to work on sites that present a challenge and often they provide the most interesting designs and responses. This site is located in woodland of which most is protected. A previous outline planning application had been granted for a large house but we wanted to provide a more sympathetic and ‘green’ solution.

The concept for the design is to nestle the house into the falling levels of the site reducing its impact on the tree canopies and making best use of the existing topography.

The site is adjacent to a busy road and again the design responds to this by providing a two storey stone facade to the road creating an acoustic barrier. The wall also provides an element of discovery for the home as the main entrance is through a door within the wall, a secret garden. Once inside, the house opens up to the landscape beyond with large sliding glazed panels.
