In response to Dorset County Councils review of future school provision in the Purbeck area we were approached by the school in January 2009 to develop a feasibility study that looked at the potential for redevelopment of the school on its current site.

We have produced two options, option one that looks at retaining the existing school and adding to it with new buildings and option two that looks at creating an entirely new school.

Within both of the designs our focus has not just been on creating more space but looking at the opportunities that the new space can create for the school. As architects we believe schools do not need to be a series of boxes linked by cramped corridors and we wanted to demonstrate that the new St Marys buildings could be inspiring, exciting, fun, light and airy.
